Sterling Park Project Clean Stream an Outstanding Success

Volunteers took action to improve Sterling by clearing 10 tons of debris from a two mile stretch of Cabin Branch Creek in Sterling Park.

Project Clean Stream is an activity of the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay.

The local non-profit Sterling Foundation mission is to strengthen the Sterling community by fostering diverse environmental, educational, cultural and recreational opportunities for enhanced quality of life.

The Sterling Foundation is expanding its environmental cleanup efforts with a Project Clean Stream site in 2017. The Foundation is determined to increase their focus from regular Boulevard litter pickups to new target areas like the Cabin Branch tributary that runs under Sterling Boulevard at West Greenthorn Avenue and East Staunton Avenue and eventually flows into the Broad Run.

About Project Clean Stream

Find out more about Project Clean Stream via the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay:

http://cleanstream.allianceforthebay.org

Every spring, tens of thousands of volunteers come together to pick up trash from local streams, creeks, rivers, parks, and neighborhoods as part of the Alliance’s Project Clean Stream — the largest cleanup event in the Chesapeake Bay region! Cleanups take place across the entire Chesapeake watershed, in all 6 Bay States and DC.

Through Project Clean Stream, the Alliance offers hands-on opportunities for other environmental organizations, local businesses and governments, community groups, houses of worship, schools and universities, and residents to take action to make a true impact and nurture a lasting personal stewardship and commitment to the environment, clean water, and Chesapeake Bay watershed restoration. Through Project Clean Stream cleanups, volunteers have the opportunity to dig, plant, pick-up trash, and discover how their everyday decisions affect the overall health of their local waterways, and the Bay.

The Alliance coordinates local site cleanups, trains site captains, and provides cleanup supplies such as trash bags and gloves.
