Council Approves Office Expansion, Consent Agenda

A public hearing was held Tuesday night where council members voted unanimously to pass the following items.

The Town Council voted unanimously Tuesday night to allow an increase in the amount of square footage to office space located at 134 Fort Evans Road.

Senior Planner Mike Watkins said that since the original site approval in 2009, the applicant, Fort Evans Road Developers LLC, has requested that the square footage amount be increased from 7,500 to 8,400. 

The project originally included a basement, which would have housed a large linear accelerator. The first and second floors were proposed for office space.

It was soon discovered, Watkins said, that the medical equipment could not longer be located in the basement. Moving the equipment to the first floor would result in 900 square feet of potential office space being lost and the second floor was a less-than-ideal location due to the interior ceiling heights. Maximizing those ceiling heights would add usable square footage.

  • An award of contract to Alpha Corporation of Dulles, Va., A. Morton Thomas & Associates of Chantilly, and McDonough Bolyard Peck, Inc. The selected firms will provide capital projects with inspection and management services on the town’s capital projects in order to maintain the progress of the town’s capital improvement program.
  • An award of contract to Arthur Construction Co., Inc, in the amount of $1,309,996.75 for the Lowenbach Street Improvements Phase III – Prince Street project. The project will provide improvements to Prince, Queen, and Washington streets, as well as Catoctin Circle, and Blue Ridge Avenue. Improvements include street widening and reconstruction, brick sidewalks, curb and gutter, and upgraded water and sanitary lines.
  • A resolution to approve the location in order to improve safety and ease congestion along the corridor including the Rt. 7 bypass in Leesburg. 
  • The funding of Miller Drive, a four-lane unidvided street connecting the Dulles Greenwaywith Sycolin Road near the Leesburg Executive Airport, regarding completion. 
  • A motion to send a letter that requests the involvement of the Town Manager and staff to work on options and analysis of the .
