Town Council to Vote on Change Orders, Monetary Request
A public hearing will take place this Tuesday beginning at 7:30 p.m.

The Leesburg Town Council will vote on seven items during their public hearing on Tuesday, Oct. 9, including a change order authorization regarding the Sycolin Road Widening Phase III project.
Change Order No. 26, in the amount of $121,649, includes a revised intersection configuration at Hope Parkway and Sycolin Road and an extension of the project to the limits of the proposed design/build project by the Virginia Department of Transportation for the Sycolin Road flyover, according to town documents.
Due to the increase in the modified design contract amount, which is more than the allowable 25 percent or $50,000 as allowed by the Virginia Public Procurement Act and the CIP Policies and Procedures manual, approval is needed by the Town Council.

Other items seeking approval include:
- an authorization that would allow Town Manager John Wells to submit an application for VDOT Revenue Sharing Funds for the Sycolin Road Widening Phase IV Project and for Street Resurfacing Maintenance Projects. It is currently being recommended that the town request $1 million from the FY 2014 Revenue Sharing Program for the Sycolin Road Phase IV project, and $0.5 million for Street Resurfacing Maintenance projects. The town’s share will consist of $1 million using County Gas Tax Funds for the Sycolin Road Widening project, and $0.5 million using local street resurfacing funds for the Street Resurfacing Maintenance projects.
- approval of a supplemental appropriation from a $500 donation from Chick-fil-A to the Community Outreach Program. In order to spend the funds for their intended purpose, the Town Council must appropriate them into the budget for donations to the Department of Parks and Recreation. The donation will be used to pay for field trips, special events or other supplies as needed.
- approval of a change order for the Tuscarora Creek Flood Mitigation project in the amount of $54,384.45 for design and engineering services.
The Town Council will hold their public meeting at Town Hall, beginning at 7:30 p.m. The public is welcome to attend, however no public hearings will be held. Council meetings can also be seen live on Leesburg's Government Access Channel, Comcast Channel 67 and Verizon Channel 35, or by webcast.
