Vehicle Hits Pedestrian, Driver Charged

26-year-old male taken to local hospital after being struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Chelsea Court and Heritage Way

A number of emergency vehicles arrived on scene, Tuesday evening, at 8:50 pm, after a 26-year-old male pedestrian was hit while crossing the intersection of Chelsea Court and Heritage Way.

Leesburg Master Police Officer C.F. Tidmore said the driver, a 26-year-old Hispanic female, failed  to yield and struck the pedestrian, who was later taken by ambulance to be checked for minor injuries.

Leesburg Patch had originally reported that the driver was male.

"State law states a pedestrian has the right-of-way when they are crossing the roadway. So vehicles must yield," Tidmore said, something that traffic units are constantly trying to enforce. "Drivers need to be very careful especially in the evening," he said, since daylight hours have gotten longer.

According to Tidmore, the incident was "very minor" however, the driver was charged with failure to yield to a pedestrian.
