Willard Middle School students rewarded for SAR Brochure Contest

Willard Middle School in Aldie, VA submitted 114 brochures for the Sons of the American Revolution tri-fold Brochure Contest. Students had the option of creating brochures for any of these themes: Articles of Association of 1774, The Virginia Declaration of Rights 1776, the Declaration of Independence 1776, the Articles of Confederation 1777–1781, General Washington's Resignation as Commander of the Continental Army 1783; the United States Constitution 1787, Federalist Papers 1788, the Bill of Rights 1791; President Washington’s Farewell Address 1796, the Battle of Princeton and encampment at Valley Forge.

Judges from the Sgt Maj John Champe (SMJC) and George Washington (GW) Chapters assembled to pick the top four brochures. After selecting the top brochure for the SMJC Chapter, the GW Chapter selected their top brochure followed by SMJC selecting their 2nd and 3rd place brochures. This year the quality of brochures was outstanding, making it difficult to select the winners.

The first place brochure was submitted by Ineya Zoman based on outstanding artwork and penmanship, overall creativity and organization. She was awarded $150 and a certificate. Her brochure was send forward to the Virginia Society SAR Brochure chairman where it will be judged against brochures from the other 29 chapters in Virginia SAR.

The second place brochure was submitted by Fiori Helebo who creatively had an outstanding rendition of the capital dome as a major element of her poster. She was awarded a check for $100 and a certificate.

The third place brochure was submitted by Abigail Mayberry. She was awarded $75 and a certificate.

The brochure contest is one of five SAR contests for school children. The contests are: Elementary school Poster contest, Middle School and High School video contest, and High School Essay and Oration (Speech) contests.
