Opening Reception for The Sumi-e Society Exhibition

The Workhouse is proud to host the Sumi – e Society Exhibition, The Society's mission is to foster and encourage an appreciation of East Asian brush painting techniques through publications, workshops, lectures and exhibitions; to serve as a cultural bridge between East and West; and to furnish information to all persons who wish to learn about this art. The exhibition is open to all artists, and aims to publicly show the best current East Asian brush paintings and calligraphy. The exhibition will be juried by Professor Lampo Leong Ph.D. Lampo Leong is an internationally renowned painter and calligrapher who received his BFA in Brush Painting from the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts, MFA in Painting from the California College of the Arts, and Ph.D. in Art Theory from the prestigious Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing. Dr. Leong is currently a professor in painting and drawing at the University of Missouri-Columbia and a former Art Department Chair. He has also influenced thousands of students through more than 110 lectures across the U.S., China, and Taiwan at institutions such as the University of California at Berkeley, Stanford University, the University of Minnesota, the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco, Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts, and the National Taiwan Normal University. The public is invited to attend a free opening reception on Saturday, October 16 from 5-7pm in Gallery W-16, 2nd Floor.
