35 Years After Manassas Trooper's Murder FBI Seeks New Tips
Decades after the murder of Virginia State Trooper Johnny Bowman of Manassas, the FBI and local agencies continue offering a $50K reward.

MANASSAS, VA — On the 35th anniversary of his death, authorities continue to search for those responsible for the murder of Virginia State Trooper Johnny Rush Bowman, who was ambushed at his home and stabbed dozens of times. Pledging its commitment to finding justice for Bowman and his family, the FBI is offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of those responsible for Bowman’s death.
On Aug. 19, 1984, at about 4:15 a.m., Bowman was attacked and stabbed 45 times by an unknown assailant while at his home located near Patterson Place in Manassas. Bowman, who was unarmed at the time, engaged in a struggle that woke up his 2-year-old daughter, Nikki.
Nikki Bowman, now an officer with the Manassas City Police Department, said last year in a video, that her father answered the door and was immediately ambushed. The entire incident happened in the foyer of their home, she said. Following the attack, Bowman died from his injuries.

“That’s why I need people who have overheard, have been told something, or who were there, I need them to come forward,” Nikki Bowman said in the video. “Somebody knows specifically what happened that day. And if I had to lay money on it, it’s not what’s been told.”
The FBI has provided helped the Virginia State Police and the Manassas City Police Department investigate the murder since 1984. The bureau processed evidence left behind at the scene, including sunglasses, a wig and a construction hard hat.

Authorities ask anyone with information about Bowman’s murder to call the FBI at 1-800-225-5324 or the Virginia State Police at 703-803-2676. Individuals may also contact a local FBI office, American Embassy or Consulate, or submit a tip online at tips.fbi.gov. All tips can remain anonymous.
