61 Trash Cleanups, 15 Years As EMT, Museum's Friendly Face: Manassas Honors Volunteers

The City of Manassas held a volunteer reception honoring hundreds of volunteers, including eight award winners.

MANASSAS, VA — From an EMT taking a leading role at the Greater Manassas Volunteer Rescue Squad, a friendly face at the Manassas Museum, Manassas had a variety of volunteers to thank during a reception Tuesday.

The City of Manassas Volunteer reception and dinner was held Tuesday, drawing hundreds of volunteers in attendance. The reception honored more than 450 volunteers helping with all kinds of efforts, and eight won the Outstanding Volunteer Award.

Yvonne Greenberg is a Beautification Committee member who participated in 61 trash cleanups
in the City of Manassas in 2023. The city says she not only helps with cleanups but also picks up trash when walking home from appointments, helps weed the garden at Annaburg Manor and Liberia House and helps beautify downtown businesses with plants and flowers.

Robyn Johnson, a member of the Advisory Board to Social Services, is credited with working with local faith leaders, participating in shelter training, and supporting Child Abuse Prevention Month and Christmas in July events. As an Advisory Board member, church member and Delta Sigma Theta sorority volunteer, the city says "she supports Social Services in its goal of helping Manassas residents achieve safety, independence, and overall well-being by connecting with people from all walks of life and creating a positive and inclusive community atmosphere."

Pete Rockx has been an emergency medical technician for the Greater Manassas Volunteer Rescue Squad for over 15 years and has helped with many recent needs. According to the city, he managed the renovation of Hutton Hall and the transition of operations from Center Street to the new Fire and Rescue Station on Dumfries Road. He is also credited with filling in for others in tasks such as fixing leaking water fountains and landscaping the grounds.

Ross Snare, IV, Chair of the Airport Commission, Manassas Business Council, Treasurer of HMI,
and ex officio member of the Economic Development Authority, helps organize resources of outside employers and nonprofits, according to the city.

Sheila Sunday, a Manassas Museum volunteer, is the face greeting visitors in the museun. The city says she guides visitors to the museum’s new spaces and is willing to take on additional projects or tasks.
