94 Condos, Retail Space Coming to Site of Old Manassas Newspaper

The new building will hold 94 multi-family condos and retail space on the ground floor.

The Manassas City Council approved plans to turn the site of an old newspaper building into a mixed residential and commercial property to be called Old Towne Heights.

The new building, at 9009 Church St., will include 94 multi-family condos, at least 3,500 square feet of retail space on the ground floor and will stand five stories tall.

A parking lot to accompany the building will also be built. The existing building at 9314 Centreville Road will be demolished for the lot and combined with the existing parking lot at 9004 Church St. The plans were approved at the Nov. 10 council meeting.

City residents and council member raised concerns about the parking lot, which will be located across the street from Old Towne Heights, in both the Oct. 20 and Oct. 27 council meetings. Residents worried pedestrians walking from the parking lot to the building would be unsafe, according to InsideNOVA.

This new building will replace the old News and Messenger facility which closed shortly after BH Media Group Holdings bought it in 2012.
