All Four Lanes of Wellington Road Now Open

A 17-month long project by the city took the road from two lanes to four in an effort to help alleviate traffic to and from Prince William County.

All four lanes of the new, wider Wellington Road are now open to the public.

The city's Department of Public Works and Utilities completed the Wellington Road Widening Project, between Godwin Drive and Nokesville Road, which began in 2010, in 17 months.

Mayor Hal Parrish and Manassas City council members conducted a ribbon cutting ceremony Wednesday, Jan. 11 to officially open the road that was widened from two lanes to four.

The project was completed to help alleviate the increased traffic flow from continuing growth in Prince William County and from an increase in commuter volume to and from the Prince William campus of George Mason University, according to a city-issued press release.

“Wellington Road is a gateway for many commuters and we saw the need for expansion…so we’re excited to open up this vital roadway for Manassas,” said Mike Moon, director of public works and utilities for the City of Manassas.
