“College education is an expensive undertaking, as everyone knows,” said Gerrianne Burks, Chairman of the NWFCU Foundation and President/CEO of NWFCU. “These scholarships are a way of supporting the educational pursuits of tomorrow’s leaders while at the same time recognizing the valuable contributions these students are already making to their communities.”

NWFCU Foundation Executive Director Linda Rogus agrees. “These students have exhibited the traits that will make them valuable, productive members of society. We are delighted to assist them in their future endeavors.”

Scholarship applicants must demonstrate the qualities of leadership, dedication and commitment in their communities. The Ben DeFelice Scholarship program was established in 2005 to pay tribute to DeFelice’s long-term service as Chairman of the NWFCU Board. Since that time, the program has awarded 106 scholarships totaling $454,000. The CIRA Scholarship fund recognizes the demands placed on families of CIA personnel and the importance of supporting their educational goals. NWFCU Foundation has administered the scholarship since 2007; during that time, it has awarded 32 scholarships totaling $78,000 to children and grandchildren of active duty or retired CIA officers.
