One Candidate Is Winning The Money Race In Virginia’s 10th District GOP Primary

MANASSAS, VA — Dave Beckwith, an Air Force veteran and a former deputy assistant secretary of defense, continues to out-earn the other contenders in the Republican primary for Virginia's 10th Congressional District.

From April 1 to June 30, Beckwith reported total receipts of $79,205 and total disbursements of $37,589. His total individual contributions were $27,204.54 and the campaign took out a loan of $50,000.

Beckwith reported starting the cycle with $20,681 cash on hand and ending the cycle with $62,297. According to federal filings, he has raised a total of $ 104,869.

Fellow candidates Julie Perry and Anthony Suttles lag far behind in the fundraising race. Perry brought in $3,582 in contributions for the quarter and Suttles $26,400 in the form of a loan.

Beckwith Gets PAC Contribution, Donations From Business Community

Beckwith received a $2,000 donation from the Restoring Our Freedom PAC. The vast majority of his individual contributions were greater than $200, with $5,474 coming in smaller denominations. Defense contractors were well represented among donors to his campaign, with members of other local businesses and many retirees also appearing.

Perry Leads Small Dollar Donations

Candidate Julie Perry, though she's raised far less than Beckwith overall, leads all candidates in donations under $200. Her campaign has raised $5,928 from donations of $200 or less, about $450 more than. She's raised $5,800 from larger donations. Among her donors are many retired residents, a public school teacher and a small business owner.

Suttles Campaign Appears Inactive

Suttles has not reported any contributions to his campaign and did not appear at a June debate hosted by the VA 10 Republican committee. His campaign website is private. All of his receipts come in the form of a $26,400 loan, all of which he reported spending.

What The Numbers Mean

Campaign finance is only one measure of electoral strength. Fundraising and cash on hand are widely viewed as indicators of a campaign's organizational capacity and ability to communicate with voters.
