Manassas City Now on Facebook, Twittter

City to use social media to better communicate with residents, guests.

The City of Manassas is now using Facebook and Twitter thanks to the efforts of the city's new manager and communciation coordinator. 

Residents can either visit the city's webiste and click on the Facebook and/or Twitter icons in the top left corner to get up-to-date information via the social media sites or sign up directly on Facebook and Twitter

“Using social media will help the City of Manassas communicate more effectively about events, City happenings, City government issues and emergency situations,” said Manassas City Manager John Budesky in a city-issued press release. “This effort will help the City of Manassas become more transparent and engaged with our residents and guests.”

The city's new communication coordinator Patricia "Patty" Prince, formally a  public information specialist with Prince William County, will be updating the city's social media sites.

The city getting social online is part of  Budesky's plan to get the message out about all the good things the city is doing. In addition to hiring a and creating an increased presence online via social media, Budesky has also image to represent the city and its communication efforts.

The city's police department currently has a presence on Facebook via their joint CrimeSolvers page with Manassas Park, but the city's fire department has yet to get onboard. Prince said there is no immediate plan to get the fire department on Facebook.

"We will keep the social media to what we have just established and the police presence which was created previously," she said.
