Gutter Season Isn't Over: A Late-Fall Checklist for Burke, Springfield and Annandale Homes

The trees around Burke Lake, Lake Accotink and Kings Park hold their leaves longer than most, which means gutters cleaned in October are often full again by Thanksgiving. Here's a short checklist from our crew for the next few weeks.
1. Look at the gutters after the last big leaf drop, not before. One late cleaning beats two early ones.
2. Check the downspouts. A clogged downspout sends water over the gutter edge even when the gutter itself looks clear.
3. Watch the spots where water pools by the foundation after rain. That's usually the gutter run above it.
4. Don't forget the back of the house. It's where most overflow stains on siding start.
5. If ice formed along your roof edge last winter, full gutters were likely part of the reason.
