MANASSAS, VA — A resolution in the U.S. House of Representatives would congratulate the City of Manassas for its upcoming 150th anniversary. Congresswoman Jennifer Wexton announced the proposal on Wednesday in advance of the official anniversary on April 1.

The city began in its current form in 1873. The Virginia General Assembly decided to incorporate the area, then known as Manassas Junction, near the intersection of several railroad lines.

"Congratulations to the City of Manassas on 150 years of history and growth as one of Virginia’s most diverse and vibrant communities,” Wexton said in a news release. “As Manassas’ representative in Congress for the past four years, I’ve enjoyed every opportunity to visit the city’s historic landmarks, experience its rich cultural diversity, and get to know the incredible people who call it home."
