Serious Crime Rises By 9% In Manassas In 2021: Annual Police Report
The Manassas City Police Department reported more crimes last year, though the crime rate per 1,000 people only increased from 19 to 2o.
MANASSAS, VA — Crimes increased slightly in the City of Manassas in 2021. The police department detailed the year's crimes in their annual report this week.
The crime rate per 1,000 people increased slightly in 2021. There were 20 crimes per 1,000 people in 2021, compared to 19 crimes per 1,000 people in 2020.
Part I offenses, which the police department considers as the most serious crimes, increased by 9 percent. Authorities attributed the rise to an increase in burglaries, thefts, and stolen cars.

Some violent offenses decreased in 2021. The number of robberies, assaults, and domestic violence reports decreased over 2020 levels.
The number of non-violent domestic incidents increased by 7 percent. The police department said the number of domestic violence arrests increased by 23 percent. Authorities claimed that 100 percent of domestic violence reports led to arrests.

The police department also noted an increase in average response times in 2021. For priority 1 calls, the most dire emergencies, officers arrived on the scene 3 minutes and 42 seconds after they were dispatched. The response time for those emergency calls increased by an average of 39 seconds over 2020's average.
The police department's goal was to have officers on the scene 3 minutes after they were dispatched.
