DMV Offices Recovering From System Outage

On the busiest day of the month, Virginia DMV offices were closed Saturday morning due to "technical issue."

A lot of Virginia drivers got up early on a Saturday morning to wait in line at their local DMV, but doors were locked and a notice hung on the window that they weren’t open due to a technical outage.

Soon after 10:30 a.m. Saturday, DMV posted this notice on Facebook:

VirginiaDMV systems are being recovered and we are working to open as many offices as possible today. Systems may be slow; we appreciate our customers’ patience.

Please visit dmvNOW.com to see if your preferred customer service center is open. In addition, customers who can conduct their VirginiaDMV business online are encouraged to do so.

CBS6 noted that an automated message greeted motorists calling the DMV call center earlier on Saturday, noting their system was down, too.

“Of course the day I can get my license DMV is closed,” wrote one Twitter user.

“Got to the DMV before it opened just to stand outside in 14 degree weather & found out the computers aren’t working so it’s closed (-:,” wrote another.
