Dog Dragged By Leash Dies, Manassas Woman Charged

MANASSAS, VA — A Manassas woman is facing charges after Prince William County Police witnessed her dragging her 8-year-old dog on its side by its leash. The dog, who appeared overheated and was breathing abnormally, according to police, later died on the way to a veterinarian.

Stephanie Denise Hillmon, 54, is facing a felony animal cruelty charge following the incident that occured Sept. 10 in the area of Etherington Court and Chaddsford Terrace in Manassas. Police said they attempted to help the Bichon Frise/Shih Tzu mix, but it died as animal control officers were transporting it to a local animal hospital.

Hillmon was arrested without incident, police said. A court date and bond information for Hillmon were unavailable.
