Ramadan is a month of giving. It’s a month which reminds us to give preference to others in need over our own desires. It inculcates in us a spirit of empathy, sacrifice and to feel for those who are less fortunate than us. Fasting has many physical and health benefits but in addition to that it also teaches self-control. It’s a once a year exercise to cleanse the body and purify the soul.
Humanity First USA which is a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization has launched “Fasting to Feed” campaign this Ramadan. Goal of this campaign is to encourage Muslims to celebrate this month of giving by sharing meals with those in need and feeding the hungry in America. This is done at a time when according to ‘Feeding America’ more than 41 million fellow Americans, including 13 million children, do not know when they will have their next meal.
Through this campaign with a $3 donation, you can help feed one child in school for one day. A $15 donation, can help feed one child in school for one week. A $25 donation, can help provide meals for an American family of 4 for one day and with a $175 donation, one can help provide meals for an American family of 4 for one week.
