Firefighters Respond to Hazmat Incident at Lake Linden

Prince William Fire Dept. says no injuries or damage reported at stormwater pond.

Prince William County fire and rescue crews are working to contain a hazardous materials spill in a stream and stormwater retention pond off Sudley Road (Route 234) north of Manassas.

There have been no reported injuries and the incident poses no immediate threat to the public, according to the county Fire & Rescue Department.

At about 7 a.m. Tuesday, fire and rescue crews were dispatched to a hazardous materials incident on Lake Linden and its tributary, near Coppermine Drive.

Upon arrival on the scene, hazmat crews detected a petroleum odor and observed an unknown petroleum product in the tributary feeding into Lake Linden, a stormwater management pond just south of Interstate 66, the fire department said.

Fire and rescue crews will remain on the scene for an undetermined amount of time working in collaboration with Virginia Department of Emergency Management and Virginia Department of Environmental Quality.

The county Fire Marshal’s Office is actively investigating the incident.
