Future of Road Link Between Loudoun, Manassas Is Still Unclear
Local lawmakers say the Bi-County Parkway is dead; state officials insist it's staying on the drawing board.

The fate of the controversial Bi-County Parkway remains uncertain, even as several Northern Virginia lawmakers hailed its demise Wednesday in a news conference at a historic local church.
The lawmakers included two local state delegates, Timothy Hugo and Robert Marshall, and state Sen. Richard Black, who gathered at the Sudley Church on the Manassas National Battlefield Park, the Washington Post reported. Hugo said a letter he received from state transportation officials, which says they will delay seeking federal approval for the 10-mile road project, indicates that the project won’t happen.

State transportation officials, however, say that no decision has been made on the parkway’s future.
Running north-south, the Bi-County Parkway would link Interstate 66 with Route 50 in Loudoun County. It’s designed to relieve traffic congestion in the fast growing area, and it would relocate Route 234 out of the heart of the Manassas battlefield, moving it 2.5 miles west.

Opponents, however, say the parkway would increase suburban sprawl and bring more commercial development to the edge of the battlefield.
