Haymarket Gainesville Community Library to Open in October 2015

If you're a Gainesville or Haymarket resident, you are in for a real treat! Book lovers will rejoice as a brand new library opens this fall.

If you’re a Gainesville or Haymarket resident, you are in for a real treat! Book lovers will rejoice as a brand new library opens this fall with the ribbon cutting scheduled for October 22, 2015 at 10 a.m. This 20,000 square foot library is located at the intersection of Route 15 and Lightner Road. Whether you love to inhale the smell of the pages as you read or you prefer digitized print (or even listening to a narrator as you virtually flip through your audiobook), this new facility will have something for everyone.

In addition to reading time fun and other planned activities, the library will create several new jobs in the community. The branch administrator at the current Gainesville mini library, Jessica Scalph, will move to the new location. There will be several openings that applicants can apply for on the Prince William County Government website. The staff will be larger than the current library, but not as large as other PWC library staffs, like those at Chinn or Bull Run Regional.

The Haymarket Gainesville Library is starting fresh with all new materials. Books and shelves at the current library are being recycled to other county libraries. The children and youth section of the new library will feature a nice, bright area with lots of windows, for storytelling. The facility will also feature study rooms and a meeting space.

The public library is a place for folks in the community to come together. Whether it’s for parents seeking social interaction and story time for the kiddos or high school students studying for exams, a public library can be beneficial to all. If you need to hold your monthly club meeting or organize a local food drive, the meeting rooms at the library will be able to accommodate. While the books and resources are amazing, the library is about so much more. It’s about community, education and connecting to share information. And the best part about it, all of these services are free!

On-site you can also see a historic structure, the farmhouse known as Bushy Park, which was relocated to this land from its previous location on Catharpin Road. Bushy Park is currently being restored by the Prince William County Historic Division, and we will keep you updated on its progress.
