Household Hazardous Waste Program To Pause In Prince William County
The Prince William County landfill is temporarily pausing a hazardous waste disposal program. It will reopen in March, officials said.

PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, VA — A household hazardous waste disposal program is temporarily pausing in Prince William County, officials said in a news release. The program is expected to resume in March 2023.
The household hazardous waste program allows residents to dispose of materials like spray paint, gasoline, oil, propane tanks, and other potentially dangerous chemicals. The program is hosted at the Prince William County Landfill with no charge for residents of Prince William County.
The program is not run by county employees, but by a private contractor. County officials said the current contractor is unwilling to renew the partnership due to concerns about costs and difficulty finding workers.

"Staff is working on getting a new contractor and anticipates an award of the new contract within the next few weeks," Prince William County said in a news release. "Due to the time needed to transition to a new contractor, the HHW facility will temporarily close to the public for approximately 30 to 60 days. Staff will work with the new contractor to resume service as quickly as possible."
The program will be open through the end of the year with the current contractor. Residents can bring hazardous waste to the landfill on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. They can bring up to 15 gallons of liquids or 40 pounds of materials.
