Kline Engineering Pro Shared Construction Features of The Arundel

Layth Hussein, an engineer with Kline Engineering & Consulting, LLC in Northern Virginia, participated in a special project tour and presentation about The Arundel apartment complex on October 25 for the Maryland Construction Network, an organization for construction professionals in the DC/Baltimore area. Kline Engineering & Consulting is headquartered in Manassas, Va.

Hussein served as Kline Engineering’s project manager on The Arundel, a 15-story building located in Hanover, Md., featuring spacious apartments with many luxury amenities for today’s modern lifestyles. “We were excited to offer a unique, behind-the scenes look at the tallest building in Anne Arundel County,” he said.

Kline Engineering’s expertise in the specialty field of post-tensioned concrete was on full display during Hussein’s presentation about interesting aspects of the construction project. For example, The Arundel’s framing consists of post-tensioned flat plate construction with reinforced concrete core walls. Also, Hussein shared some of the construction challenges that required innovative solutions using post-tensioning technology.

“Attendees learned that post-tensioned materials were used throughout The Arundel, from the loading dock to the storm water vault under the building to the bridge connecting the residential building to the garage,” he said. “This is one of the biggest projects that Kline Engineering has completed and we’re very proud of the result.”

A native of Iraq, Hussein holds a master’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Virginia. He is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and the Iraqi Society of Civil Engineers. Fluent in English and Arabic, his multicultural upbringing offers a global perspective for Kline Engineering’s clients. He joined the firm in 2014.
