Letter to the Editor: Congratulations to GOP Nominees
Vice Mayor Andrew Harrover congratulates GOP nominees and seeks to add clarity on important issue regarding taxes brought up at convention.

To The Editor:
First things first: Congratulations to Mr. Parrish, Mr. Wolfe, Mr. Way and Mr. Lovejoy. Well done Gentlemen. All have my support and endorsement. It was an active convention season with many emails and letters sent to our supporters. I’m sure that all of the delegates are relieved that they’ll not be getting 7 political emails nearly every day!

I was sorry to see Sheryl Bass not re-nominated as I thought she had done a good job on City Council. I hope to see her again involved in politics in the future. Also thanks to Mr. Patullo for his willingness to engage.

One final salute: thanks to the 600+ people who showed up to participate in a hands-on implementation of democracy. This is about as basic as it gets and I thought the Republican committee did a good job of handling the event and our citizens conducted themselves admirably.
For my part, I do not regret running for Mayor but I do feel particularly strong about clarifying one point that was brought up: the proposal to slightly increase the BPOL tax was to pay for the hiring of 4 police officers. This was 3 months after we had a triple murder and gang execution across the street from our High School. I felt then, as now, that public safety is among my primary charges. Manassas isn’t Washington: we needed to pay for the officers and I offered a starting point. In the end, the officers were hired and we found the money elsewhere in the budget. Indeed, we actually reduced our BPOL tax last year! This is the way the Council works things through.
I’ll not ramble on for fear of some interpreting my missive but I do again congratulate the winners.
Andy Harrover
