MANASSAS, VA — The City of Manassas is considering privatizing its library services when an agreement with the Prince William County Library System ends July 1. The city heard a plan at a council work session last week that calls for shifting library services from Central Library on Mathis Avenue to a new location at Wellington Plaza shopping center, according to a report.

The city currently contracts with Prince William County to provide library services through April 2020, Potomac Local reports. CFO Todd Frager of the private firm Library Systems and Services told council members the city would save $1.2 million in operating costs by pulling out of the current Prince William Library agreement.

The city would work with Library Systems and Services to ensure a seamless transition. The projected new library would be in Wellington Plaza in a space originally slated for a Meineke auto repair shop.
