Manassas Driver Strikes Deputy Cruiser In Stafford DUI Crash: Police

Stafford County's sheriff's office said the Manassas driver couldn't remember how she ended up in the county.

MANASSAS, VA — A Manassas driver with signs of intoxication crashed into a sheriff deputy's cruiser in Stafford County Tuesday, according to the sheriff's office.

The crash happened around 10:29 p.m. in the area of Garrisonville Road and the Jessica Cheney Bridge over Interstate 95. A sheriff's deputy saw a westbound vehicle traveling in the eastbound lanes coming toward his cruiser. The sheriff's office said the cruiser's lights were activated to get the driver to stop, but the vehicle crashed head-on into the cruiser.

The driver, who was not publicly identified, told the deputy she wasn't aware what happened or how she got to Stafford County. According to the sheriff's office, the driver had alcohol on her breath and other signs of intoxication. She had another DUI incident on record in Culpeper four months ago.

The driver or sheriff's deputy were not injured in the crash. The driver was charged with driving under the influence second offense within five years, reckless driving, and failure to drive on the right side of the road. She was held without bond at the Rappahannock Regional Jail.
