Manassas: Sidewalk Clearing Not Required, Yet

With schools out until next week, city won't enforce requirement to clear sidewalks until Sunday, Jan. 31.

That ridiculous snow on the sidewalk in front of your house can hang around, for now, according to the City of Manassas.

The city has an ordinance requiring that residents clear sidewalks following snow storm events, but the calendar is in your favor.

School has been cancelled through Wednesday and will be closed for the rest of the week for teacher work days.

That means city sidewalks do not need to be cleared until Sunday, Jan. 31.

The city stresses that residents should be careful when shoveling.

Typically, property owners are responsible for clearing sidewalks within 12 hours after the snow has stopped falling.

City staff inspect sidewalks, and property owners are liable for the cost of snow/ice removal if the City determines that it poses a hazard to public safety.
