Motorcycle Crash Into Tree Kills Driver On Sudley Road: Police

A motorcyclist died after he crashed, lost his helmet, and struck a tree near Sudley Road northwest of Manassas, according to authorities.

MANASSAS, VA — A man died after his motorcycle crashed near the intersection of Sudley Road and Catharpin Road on Sunday night. The victim, Chad Eldridge Caldwell, 43, of Haymarket, died at a nearby hospital from injuries suffered in the crash.

Investigators with Prince William County's Crash Investigation Unit responded to the crash on Sunday night. They determined a single-vehicle crash occurred as a motorcycle was driving northbound on Catharpin Road, near Sudley Road, according to a news release from the police department.

Caldwell was driving a 2008 Harley Davidson Night Train motorcycle when he failed to stop at a stop sign, police said. He then crossed both lanes of Sudley Road and struck an embankment on the other side of the intersection.

Caldwell was thrown from the motorcycle and struck a tree, investigators said. Though he was originally wearing a helmet, authorities said it came off before he struck the tree.

Caldwell was taken to a nearby hospital, where he died from injuries he suffered during the crash.
