Police: Pilot Dead in Plane Crash in Fauquier County

One confirmed death Sunday afternoon in remote area of Catlett, according to Virginia State Police.

The pilot of a single-engine plane died in a crash Sunday in Fauquier County, according to Virginia State Police.

The fixed-wing airplane crashed at approximately 12:30 p.m. near the 10000 block of Shenandoah Path in Catlett, according to VSP spokesperson Corinne Geller.

“Thanks to local residents providing witness accounts and four-wheel drive vehicles, emergency responders were able to successfully locate and access the remote crash site quickly,” she said in a statement.

State police are still in the process of notifying the pilot’s next of kin. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Fauquier County Sheriff’s Office, the Catlett’s Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad and the FAA have responded to the scene. NTSB has been notified.
