The Prince William Board of County Supervisors recently proclaimed Oct. 3 through 9 as National 4-H Week in Prince William County. The proclamation urged people to celebrate and recognize the unique partnership between the County, Virginia Cooperative Extension, or VCE, and the state university system which all help young people to meet the challenges of a complex and rapidly changing world by pledging their “Head, Heart, Hands, and Health” to “Make the Best Better.”
As the nation’s largest youth development organization, 4-H provides mentors who offer the community’s young people the chance to develop life skills, take on proactive leadership roles and empowers them to lead in life, career and in their communities.

The Prince William County 4-H held fast through the COVID-19 pandemic and enrolled more than 200 members in its clubs and camping programs with nearly 7,000 members in 4-H special interest programs.
Members adapted to virtual and hybrid environments, remained engaged in positive youth development, connected with their communities, and actively competed in local, district, and state competitions and events. The program’s strength is built upon the support of hundreds of volunteers, who, through the pandemic, gave more than 11,000 hours of their time, talents, energies, and resources to the community’s youth.
