Toll Lanes for I-66: What Do You Think?
The Virginia Dept. of Transportation could open new High-Occupancy Toll lanes on I-66 outside the Beltway as soon as 2020.
As the 95 Express Lanes get closer to opening, attention is turning to the next traffic nightmare on the to-do list: Interstate 66 outside of the beltway.
The Virginia Department of Transportation is floating a toll lanes proposal for I-66. Right now, there are HOV lanes that get their fair share of the regular traffic. But a high-occupancy toll lane would give a separate lane for toll users and commuters who share a vehicle.
The lanes could arrive by 2020, with a mix of public and private funding.
