Utilities Department Names New Electric Director

The City of Manassas Department of Public Works and Utilities promotes Tarek Aly to lead Electric Department.

Aly has worked for the public works/utilities department for nine years and is an 18-year veteran in the utilities industry, according to a press released issued by the city. 

Aly helps to ensure a safe work environment for field employees, produce reliable electric systems and provide feasible rates for customers, among other things.

He enjoys playing indoor and outdoor soccer in his spare time and has co-authored the American Public Power Association (APPA) Reliable Public Power Provider (RP3) Procedure Manual (published in April 2005).

Aly is also a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Power Society and the Egyptian Syndicate for Engineers. Aly studied Electric Substation Design Fundamentals at the University of Wisconsin and received training at many institutes throughout the United States, the release said.

 “Tarek has shown great leadership and skill in helping direct the electrical operations for the city,” said Mike Moon, director of public works and utilities for the City of Manassas.  “We’re thrilled to have him on board as the new deputy director."

Aly replaces former Deputy Director of Electric Gregg Paulson.
