Virginia Legislators Approve Health Care Change, Monday
Health care policies that would have been cancelled at the end of the year can continue until 2016

Virginia legislators approved a change in the health care law Monday, now allowing health insurance companies to renew plans that do not meet requirements of the Affordable Care Act, commonly known as Obamacare, according to the Associated Press (AP).
Politicians relied on the Obama Administration’s rules for the change, which allow health insurers to continue otherwise cancelled plans through the next presidential election year, 2016, if state leaders approve.
Republicans said the change could help 250,000 Virginians whose plans would be cancelled, but Democrats thought that number was inflated, AP reports.

The health care change may be too late for many policyholders who have already received cancellation notices, according to the Daily Press. It also does not require insurance companies to keep old policies that would have been cancelled at the end of the year.
