Virginia Lottery Winner: Manassas Man $100,000 Richer

A Manassas man on his way to play golf stopped and bought a Virginia Lottery ticket that turned out to be worth $100,000.

MANASSAS, VA — According to Golf Digest, the odds of an amateur golfer — or a Sunday golfer such as Russell Bergman of Manassas — are 12,500 to 1. Berman didn't beat those odds during a recent weekly trip to the links, but he did beat odds of a different kind.

Namely, he won $100,000 when he stopped at Mac's Circle K, 8005 Sudley Road, and bought a Virginia Lottery scratch-off card that turned out to be the top prize in the "10X the Money" game. His odds of winning the top prize: 1 in 1,049,143.

". . .A better Sunday than normal," Bergam told lottery officials this week when accepted his prize. He was the third player to win the top prize in the game. According to the Virginia Lottery, that means four top-prize tickets remain unclaimed.
