What Your Honda Dealership Knows: The Future of Hybrid Honda Technology -Joyce Koons Honda
Honda has long been at the forefront of the hybrid car revolution. They were the first automaker to bring hybrid cars to the US market, starting with the two-seat hatchback Insight in 1999. Now that 15 years of hybrid cars have followed, and other automakers have introduced their own offerings, everyone is wondering what new hybrid technology will soon appear in Honda dealerships.
Showroom-Ready Future Technology
Honda’s Integrated Motor Assist (IMA) system has delivered reliable, fuel efficient performance for years now, as their popularity at Honda dealers demonstrates, but the new i-DCD single-motor system represents a giant step forward in hybrid technology. The seven-speed dual clutch automated gearbox features a thin but strong electric motor that can decouple the engine and gearbox while using the electric motor, allowing for electric-only driving, and it can also regenerate power when coasting and braking. The gasoline engine has also seen improvements for fuel efficiency, and the air conditioning and water pump both run on electricity, as well.

· Smooth takeoffs and coasting in electric mode
· Takeoffs with moderate acceleration are “boosted” as the electric motor seamlessly transitions to a gasoline engine that is already in the right gear for your speed
· Seamless shifting and downshifting as the electric and gasoline components work together
· An overall smoother and more responsive ride
Other Hybrid Vehicle Improvements at Your Honda Dealership
For 2014, Honda rolled out the new Honda Accord Hybrid and the Honda Accord Plug-In, which uses the dual-motor i-MMD system. For Accord fans, this is a welcome sight at Honda dealerships, incorporating hybrid performance with the roominess and interior features that have made this such a popular model for so many years. It certainly earned its “A” rating from Edmund’s, which cites the “excellent fuel economy, strong acceleration, roomy and high-quality interior, responsive handling, and user-friendly interior controls” as reasons to expect the Accord Hybrid to grow in popularity. The Accord Plug-In allows drivers a range of 10 to 15 miles of pure electric driving before switching to its hybrid mode, which increases fuel efficiency beyond the hybrid engine’s EPA-estimated 46 mpg. The Accord Plug-In has already received some acclaim for its quick charging times.
When and Where to Buy the Latest Honda Hybrid Models
As of now, Honda has not confirmed which models will feature the i-DCD system, but they should be available at Honda dealers in Washington, DC and elsewhere when the 2015 models roll out. It should be noted that car aficionados speculate that the i-DCD could be an excellent system for the Honda Fit, Civic Hybrid, CR-Z and Insight. The i-MMD system can already be found in the 2014 Accord Hybrid and Accord Plug-In models at your local Manassas and Fairfax Honda dealerships.
Summary
Long an industry leader in hybrid technology, Honda is poised to electrify consumers with the new hybrid vehicles that will be appearing in Honda dealerships in the next few years. How is Honda pushing the hybrid car market forward?
