PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, VA — Christmas has come and gone. As Prince William County residents prepare for New Year's Eve, they'll be looking for the best way to dispose of their Christmas trees.

In Prince William County, residents have a few options for their trees.

  • Christmas trees will be picked up from curbsides for the first two full weeks of January trough the county's yard waste collection program.
  • The Prince William County Landfill, 14811 Dumfries Road in Manassas
    • Residents can bring their trees from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday or from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays.
  • The Compost Facility, 13000 Hansen Farm Road in Manassas
    • Residents can bring their trees from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday or from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays.
  • Northern Virginia Electric Cooperative (NOVEC), 5399 Wellington Branch Road in Gainesville
    • Open daily from Dec. 16 through Jan. 13. The drop-off area is in the parking lot and marked with safety cones.

Residents should remove all ornaments, lights, tinsel, twine, and other objects before recycling trees. Anyone with a live tree should continue watering it to prevent any increased risk of fire, officials said.

Prince William County officials asked residents to check their trees for any signs of the invasive Spotted Lanternfly. Mulching or composting a tree with the county will help prevent the spread of the species, authorities said.
