Your Photos: Hundreds Go Wild for Wings

The promise of free wings for a year was enough for some people to pitch a tent and sleep outside the new Buffalo Wild Wings store in Manassas Sunday night.

The new Buffalo Wild Wings store that opened Monday in Manassas promised free wings to the first 100 people through its doors, and the people came.

Around 250 people showed up for a chance to win six free wings per week for 52 weeks, according to Buffalo Wild Wings Corporation Operations Specialist Mark J. Schurk Jr.

"I had probably about 98 people in line by 1 a.m.," Schurk said.

But the first people arrived around 4 p.m. Sunday—tents, pillows, TVs and even an RV in tow.

Schurk said this is the sixth overnight event he has been a part of. "I have been all over; Phillly, North Carolina and Canada, and this was definitely a very good turnout," he said.

Schultz said a sticker system he uses made the event fun. He would come out to the crowd periodically throughout the night, each time with a different sticker. If you were there, you got to add a sticker to your 'admit one' ticket. The people that had the most stickers on their ticket by opening time got to go to the front of the line.

It allows people to move around and not have to sit in one spot, Schurk said. He  said it was more like tailgating than waiting in line for a concert.

"People were up throwing the football and playing video games," Schurk said.

But the main event of the night had to be the Blazin' Wings Eating Contest, where participants had to eat six of the company's hottest wings in six minutes.

Schurk said the winner had a finishing time of two minutes and 20 seconds.

It was great; they were all crying and had runny noses, he said.

Buffalo Wild Wings is located at Hastings Marketplace—

It was reported in March the property was at nearly 70% capacity. According to blackoakusa.com, the shopping center has seven tenant locations available out of 16.
