Sunday, May 5 was the third International Barefoot Running Day. Events were held across the world and three of us locals participated right here in Northern VA. We ran a 5K with the Annandale Atoms and, despite the cool temperatures, had a fantastic time.
After the run, my wife and I visited several localestablishments to do a little shopping and to have lunch. In most of the stores, I wore "soleless sandals" - more on those in a future post - but in 2 REI stores and 1 Hudson Trail Outfitters, I went barefoot and encountered no issues to mention. Of course there were some double takes but no slaps on the wrist at all. Perhaps my barefoot running day t-shirt garnered me a little slack. Who knows?
I'm very slowly venturing out sans shoes but my soleless sandals are kinda' like a security blanket. I've been wearing those everywhere and have made some very interesting observations. Look for my finding soon.
