Inspire Your Heart with Art Day – By Sue Jurjevic

There are so many variations of art-painting, sculpting, drawing, etc.  All are an aspect of creating.  I came across this day as a holiday on January 31st and it gave me the perfect opportunity to share the joy of my experience teaching an art class with our preschoolers.

We have begun our “No Fuss Mess Art” class. This program not only makes art exciting and fun; but we created this opportunity for the children to experience the world of art without having the mess for mom to clean up (which they really appreciate, too!). When it comes to art, you typically present the supplies, project and some guidelines; then the funbegins.

In this class, we allow the children to not only use their imagination with what they decide to pain, but also with what to paint with!  In our last class, we put out the paper, paint and had cars, monster trucks, trains, and many things with wheels set out. Kids were then asked what things we used to paint with and they replied, as expected, with brushes! Oops, we don’t have them! We told the kids we were going to think of other things than brushes. They were amazed when I let them know they were going to use things with wheels. They found it fascinating to see the different marks each vehicle created on the paper. We had someone who chose to be very careful and not get paint on their hands and then others who chose, after a while, to use their hands; some used one type of car, and one type of paint.

That is what is so fun and fascinating about ART. You never know what the outcome will be; what you do know is it is fun and a time of expression. So let me encourage you to join us here at the Community Center for one of our many art classes with our “famous” Mr. Todd. He has had classes with school age, teen, adult, seniors and even had a family painting class. Mr. Todd is definitely an asset to our Community Center family.  Join us, get creative and express yourself.

Inspire Your Heart with Art Day celebrates art and the effect it can have on your heart. Art is valued and appreciated for all sorts of reasons. Look at a piece of art and ask yourself: What is it telling me? How does it make me feel? What emotions is it evoking (if any) within me?

While the title of this day suggests you inspire “your” heart, we’re guessing you may use today to inspire someone else’s heart! Shape the Future with us.
