Manassas Park Firefighters' Photos Tell Story of Tragic Blaze

Manassas Park firefighters were on the scene of a the massive Feb. 19 blaze in the Occoquan Forest and fought a fire that burned a home to the ground.

Seven days after a large fire destroyed a home and other fires caused damage to several residences in the Occoquan Forest, tragic images emerge from the scene of the blaze.

Manassas Park firefighters aided Prince William County firefighters in fighting the massive blaze that started Feb. 19.

That day, the Manassas Park Fire and Rescue Department was dispatched to Lake Drive to assist Prince William County with the Occoquan Forest fire, acording to department reports.

Manassas Park Engine 509 was dedicated to the one houseCrews from engine 509 and Lake Jackson Volunteer Fire Company 507 were able to contain the fire to the structure and keep it from spreading to neighboring areas. Units remained on scene for nearly six hours to ensure all hazards were extinguished, according to Manassas Park fire reports.

A large fire, which was in the Buckhall area of Prince William County near Manassas, spread across several acres Saturday.

Multiple vehicles were burned and several detached outbuildings and garages were also damaged, officials said.

Witnesses at the scene said they saw the destroyed home and said only the chimney remained. Fire officials confirmed the residents of the home were able to self-evacuate. Neighborhood residents told fire officials a tree fell on a power line, igniting the fire, according to a preliminary report by fire officials.

Residents who live along the west side of Occoquan Forest Drive from Davis Ford Road to Lake Forest Drive were evacuated, according to officials. Residents were able to go to Buckhall Fire Station on Yates Ford Road for shelter where the Red Cross assisted those displaced from their homes.

Elsewhere in the county, smoke from multiple working fires made for low visibility along Interstate 95 during much of the day Feb. 19, prompting officials to close down the northbound lanes.
