Manassas Park Track and Field Team Wins Districts, Break Records
Manassas Park athletes were responsible for three of the five records broken Wednesday at the Bull Run track and field district championships.

For the second year in a row, the boys and girls track and field teams of Manassas Park High School won the Bull Run district title.
After two rain delays at Manassas Park High School Wednesday, the boys team placed first with 192 points— almost 100 points over the second-place winner, Strasburg High School, which had 89 points. The girls team came in first with 181.6 points, Clarke County High School placed second with 129 points.
“I wasn’t expecting a 100 points over,” track field head coach Joe McElfish said. “They’re working really hard to improve their personal performance . . . it has shown at the meets.”

The athlete of the meet award was given to Manassas Park athlete Rachel Chan, who placed first in girls’ long jump with a distance of 10 and three-fourths feet, first in girls’ triple jump with 33.3 ft., and second in the high jump and 100-meter hurdles.
Senior Tyree Durr placed first in 110-meter hurdles, 300-meter hurdles, high jump, long jump and triple jump.

“He was in the zone somewhere,” McElfish said. “He was in five meets and won all five.”
Durr set a district record for both hurdle events with a time of 15.08 seconds for the 110-meter hurdles and a time of 40.2 seconds for 300-meter hurdles.
Senior Sharese Roberts also broke a district record of 12.54 seconds with her time of 12.42 seconds in the 100-meter dash.
Katlyn Meyers of Strasburg and Clare Moretz of Madison County broke a district record of 2:23 in the 800-meter run with times of 2:19 and 2:21, respectively.
Manassas Park will send 14 girls and 16 boys in the Region B Championships next week. He said the biggest challenge was getting the team over the intimidation surrounding the events.
“You gotta get it out of their head that it’s regionals,” McElfish said. “It’s just another meet.”
The girls' track team won first place in regionals last year, and the boys' team placed third.
