Patch Picks: Summer Camps

Summer camps aren’t just for kids. Check out this week’s Patch Picks and learn all about five awesome summer camps.

Camp Greentoplocated in Sabillasville, Maryland offers resident, travel, adult, day, family and co-ed camps for children, youth and adults with cognitive, physical, emotional or multiple disabilities. It’s been in operation since 1937. 

Programs: Outdoor activities, performing arts, horseback riding, team sports, water sports, arts and crafts

Ages accepted: Seven through adult.

Cost: This specialty camp costs an average of $1000.

BOSS also known as the Boulder Outdoor School of Survival is located outside of beautiful Boulder, Utah and offers several courses throughout the summer. These courses are not for the faint of heart.

Programs: Survival, rescue, specialty

Ages accepted: Acceptance is based on physical endurance ability –but  it’s primarly for healthy and active adults.

Cost:  Varies with course and does not include airfare to Boulder.

CAMP BATAWAGAMA This camp is located in Iron County, Michigan and offers special camps (this year it’s June 15-17) for senior citizens. 

Programs: Water activities, arts and crafts, wood carving, cook-outs and camping 

Ages:  Senior citizens

Audubon Center of the North Woods is an adventure camp located in Sandstone, Minnesota. One of it’s main focuses is working with school-age children. They offer nutritious meals and modern dorm facilities.

Programs:  Adventure camps for kindergarters to college students

Ages: 5-23

Cost: Varies with each program

CAMP CODY has been in operation since 1926 and is located near Lake Ossippe in Freedom, New Hampshire. It offers extensive educational and adventure summer courses for children ages 7-15.

Programs: Two, four, six and eight-week educational and adventure camps

Ages: 7-15

Cost: Varies by course
