  • Be sure to use sufficient postage. Double-check your envelope. Does it weigh more than 1 ounce? Tax returns without enough postage will be returned.
  • Write clearly. Print labels on your computer or neatly write both the destination and return addresses.
  • Avoid the rush at the Post Office. Mail your return in a Collection Box® that has a pick-up time before the deadline.

Convenient alternate USPS mailing options are still available:

  • Customers can purchase postage stamps at many grocery stores and pharmacies. Self-serve kiosks offer customers 24-hour access to Postal products and services. These self-serve units can be used for most mailing and shipping transactions. To locate a self-serve unit or other alternate access location, visit www.usps.com and select the “Locate a Post Office” option. Mailers using a self-serve kiosk should be aware that these units do not provide proof-of-mailing as the date of sale on the receipt does not necessarily represent the mailing date.
  • WWW.USPS.COM is visited over 1 million times each day and offers customers 24/7 access to products and services from the convenience of their home office. Customers may take advantage of special discounts for on-line shipping services and arrange free pickup service.
  • Customers who print on-line postage on April 15 may place the mail piece in a collection box or drop box at the nearest retail unit. Mailers are strongly advised to check the last pickup time posted on blue collection boxes before depositing their returns as there will be no special collection of mail from these boxes. An April 15 postmark will be provided if the mail is deposited by the last pickup time posted.
