MCLEAN, VA — Summer gets into high gear this month at the McLean Community Center, which has four free concerts planned.

Closing Notice: Independence Day - Thursday, July 4

  • The McLean Community Center and the Old Firehouse Center will be closed on Thursday, July 4, for the Independence Day holiday. Camp programs will not be held on Thursday, July 4 and Friday, July 5.

The Gordon Sterling Trio perform on the porch of the historic house in Lewinsville Park. Free.

  • A special summer treat of soul/rock band Gordon Sterling and the People… unplugged. Drawing from the wells of jam rock, soul and reggae, the band's musical odyssey is an invigorating journey into the heart of what it means to connect, reflect and love fiercely in an ever-evolving world. With every note, they remind us of the power of music to transcend, heal, and unify.

Lil’ Maceo performs on the porch of the historic house in Lewinsville Park. Free.

  • Smooth and sexy jazz sax originals and covers. “Mr. Funky Sax” aptly describes the musical old-school funky, foot-stomping music of Lil Maceo. His powerful music has made him one of the most sought-after saxophonists in the industry. His shows are high-energy, ultimately compelling audience members to get out of their seats and dance.

The Billy Coulter Trio performs on the porch of the historic house in Lewinsville Park. Free.

  • Washington D.C. singer/songwriter Billy Coulter’s distinctive style straddles the line between roots rock and power pop. Blending diverse influences from Springsteen and Petty to Lennon and Bowie he’s created a fresh, authentic sound with a nod to the classics that inspired him. Coulter’s unique songwriting and vocals have won 20 Washington Area Music (WAMMIE) Awards, including Album of the Year (“Dose”), Song of the Year (“Party of One”) and Songwriter of the Year.

Justin Trawick performs on the porch of the historic house in Lewinsville Park. Free.

  • Described as a mix of John Prine and Jason Mraz, Washington, D.C. based singer-songwriter Justin Trawick describes his music as urban folk rock. Trawick’s music ranges from folk to bluegrass, and even acoustic funk-infused hip-hop. His lyrics are gritty yet sweet, often referencing lessons learned or hopes for a better future. Expect Americana/roots music with humor and unexpected covers.
