$55M Paid By UAE For Planned Diplomatic Residences In McLean: Reports
United Arab Emirates purchased three McLean properties overlooking the Potomac River where it plans to build three diplomatic residences.

MCLEAN, VA — The United Arab Emirates, which has an embassy in Northwest D.C., paid $55 million in 2022 for three properties in McLean that it plans to build three diplomatic residences on, according to the Washington Business Journal. The project will also include a 11,500-square-foot “exercise structure.”
UAE purchased three lots located at 1019, 1049, 1079 Crest Lane from a trust tied to UUNet Technologies founder Richard L. Adams Jr., according to WBJ's reporting. The transaction was part of a single off-market purchase that was never recorded in the area's listing service and does not appear in any public records.
John Manganello of Land Development Consultants filed paperwork this week with Fairfax County to detemine whether the planned exercise structure and an adjacent 2,000-square-foot paddle tennis court would be allowable at 1049 Crest Lane, according to WBJ. A 24,000-square-foot diplomatic residence is also planned for this property.
