Start With Chords

Start With Chords provides personalized, in-home piano instruction for teens and adults throughout McLean, Virginia, and the surrounding communities including Great Falls, Vienna, Tysons, Falls Church, North Arlington, and Oakton. By bringing professional music education directly to your living room, the service eliminates the need for travel and ensures students learn on their own instruments. Whether you are a complete beginner or returning to the piano after years away, the program is designed to fit seamlessly into your home environment.

The curriculum specializes in a unique chord-based teaching method that prioritizes playing recognizable pop, rock, and soul songs from the very first lesson. Rather than starting with traditional note reading, students learn chord shapes and play along with original recordings to build confidence and musicality quickly. This practical approach ensures that students are performing real songs within their first month, with formal notation introduced later as a tool to support the skills already developed.

Students benefit from a flexible, no-contract, pay-as-you-go structure that allows for a stress-free learning experience. You can expect a supportive environment that includes a free 30-minute initial home visit to assess your setup, along with regular opportunities to perform through monthly recordings and quarterly living-room concerts.
