Dolley Madison Boulevard Corridor Update Planned At Upcoming Meeting

MCLEAN, VA — The study to make improvements to the Dolley Madison Boulevard corridor is continuing with the next community meeting planned in May.

The Fairfax County Department of Transportation will host a virtual meeting to provide updates on the study at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 11. Officials will share new alternatives and additional traffic volume considerations since the COVID-19 pandemic, community feedback on improvement concepts, survey results from the last community meeting in June 2019, study findings and recommendations. Residents can ask questions and provide feedback at the meeting.

The study seeks to improve traffic conditions in the area around Dolley Madison Boulevard between the Dulles Toll Road and Old Dominion Drive, which sees considerable traffic between McLean and Tysons. Specific intersections evaluated in the study include Dolley Madison Boulevard and Great Falls Street and Lewinsville Road, Dolley Madison Boulevard and Old Dominion Drive, Dolley Madison Boulevard and Ingleside Avenue, Balls Hill Road and Lewinsville Road, Chain Bridge Road and Great Falls Street, and Old Dominion Drive and Ingleside Avenue.

Possible improvement options presented at the 2019 meeting were three continuous lanes on eastbound Dolley Madison Boulevard, three continuous lanes on eastbound Dolley Madison Boulevard through Lewinsville Road and Great Falls Street, restricted left turns from Balls Hill Road and/or additional lanes on Lewinsville Road, partial jughandle at Dolley Madison Boulevard and Old Dominion Drive, exclusive left-turn lanes at Lewinsville Road and Great Falls Street, and three westbound lanes on Dolley Madison Boulevard.

For the long term, the county's transportation department had been considering interchanges at Dolley Madison Boulevard, Lewinsville Road and Great Falls Street and Dolley Madison Boulevard and Old Dominion Drive. New alternatives are expected at the upcoming meeting.
