MCLEAN, VA — Dranesville District Supervisor John Foust told his colleagues on the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors that people had been asking him lately whether his name was going to be on the ballot on Election Day in November 2023.

"I would like to take this opportunity to announce that I will not be running for reelection for a fifth term next year," Foust said, during Tuesday's board meeting. "I will have much more to say about this, of course, as time goes by. We're still quite a way out."

Foust's announcement came during the board matter portion of Tuesday's meeting and caught the other supervisors off guard.

"I think I speak for all of us in saying how much we certainly will miss you," Chairman Jeff McKay said. "Thanking you for your leadership, I know there'll be a lot of opportunities. As you said, it's what everyone's talking about, but hopefully it's what all of us are talking about for the next year and a half about all the major accomplishments and things that you have been able to accomplish on this board."

In particular, McKay drew attention to Foust's leadership on affordable housing and the board's economic initiatives. "I'll always cherish and so thank you for your outstanding dedication to the people of Dranesville District and the entire county."
