Election Results In for 34th House of Delegates Race
State Board of Elections shows 100 percent of unofficial results tallied.

There’s a winner Tuesday night in the 34th House of Delegates race: Democrat Kathleen Murphy has edged out Republican Craig Parisot to take the seat in the Virginia House of Delegates, according to results posted on the Board of Elections Web site.
Delegate-elect Murphy defeated Republican Parisot in today’s special election to replace outgoing Delegate Barbara Comstock.
“I want to congratulate Delegates-elect Kathleen Murphy and Joseph Preston on their victories this evening, and for running campaigns focused on the common-sense approach to economic growth that Virginians want,” said Gov. Terry McAuliffe. “I am looking forward to working with them and legislators from both parties in the upcoming session to build a new, stronger Virginia economy.”

“I am proud to offer my sincere congratulations to Kathleen and her family on this important victory. Anyone who knows Kathleen will tell you how passionate she is about serving the people of her district -- and I know she will bring that same energy and determination to get things done in Richmond,” said Caucus Chair Scott Surovell.
“By electing Kathleen Murphy today, the people of the 34th House of Delegates district sent a strong, clear message to Richmond that they are ready to keep Virginia moving forward,” said Democratic Leader David Toscano.

“I look forward to working together with Kathleen and our fellow Democrats to expand economic opportunities, strengthen the middle class, improve our schools and build a solid future for the next generation of Virginians.”
“I congratulate Kathleen Murphy and Joseph Preston on their victories in the 34th and 63rd House District special elections and I look forward to welcoming them to Richmond next week for the General Assembly session,” said DPVA Chair Mayor Dwight Jones. “I have no doubt they will serve the Commonwealth admirably and effectively as the newest Democratic legislators fighting for education investments, quality healthcare and growing a New Virginia economy.”
The unofficial results show:
- Murphy: 6,406 or 51.42%
- Parisot: 6,082 or 48.64%
In Fairfax County, Murphy took 4,929 or 51.65% of the votes; Parisot got 4,602 votes or 48.22% of the votes.
In Loudoun County, Murphy took 1,477 or 49.92% of the votes; Parisot got 1,480 or 50.02%.
